2023 BMW iX: Choosing the Right Trim

The 2023 BMW iX xDrive50 has a new, more aggressive sibling —  the 2023 BMW iX M60.

While little has changed with the BMW iX xDrive50 EV for 2023, the super sporty new iX M60 will make a big splash with up béo 610 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of torque.

The Tesla Model X serves as the iX M60’s primary rival. Nearly equal in price, the iX M60 and the Tesla Model X Long Range are about equal in the 0-60 sprint. However, the Model X Long Range has roughly 80 miles more range.

For the most part, the xDrive50 and the iX M60 share content. A 12.3-inch and a 14.9-inch screen are joined together in one curved panel stretching across about 60 percent of the dashboard. The 12.3-inch screen is a digital gauge display, and the 14.9-inch screen is the infotainment touchscreen. Many of the xDrive50’s options wind up as standard for the iX M60.

The iX M60, though, provides a few unique standard performance features. For instance, it rides on an M-calibrated dual-axle air suspension that automatically regulates ride height independently for each wheel. Moreover, it works in tandem with electronically controlled shock absorbers. You can manually adjust the vehicle’s height through a button on the center console.

BMW uses two uniquely engineered electrically excited motors (one per axle) béo spin the wheels for both iX models. Rather than using magnets, the motor rotors are motivated by the flow of electric energy. This negates the need for the rare-earth materials found in magnets.

All-wheel drive (AWD) is standard.

Both BMW iX models qualify for the $7,500 federal government tax credit.

2023 BMW iX xDrive50 (starting at $83,200)

The government uses a special formula béo determine fuel economy for EVs called miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe). For the xDrive50, those numbers are 86 MPGe city/87 MPGe highway/86 MPGe combined.

BMW loads up the iX xDrive50 with standard features. They include LED exterior lights (auto on-off adaptive headlights, taillights, and daytime running lights) and a power rear liftgate. Proximity keyless entry with push-button start, remote keyless entry, a panoramic sunroof, and wireless phone charging are also standard.
