  1. I still wonder why are you not in the AFF official discord server

  2. Philippines is in terrible form right now so huge chance for them to exit at group stage. They recently just hired a coach days before the games and they're only using the entire to gauge the abilities of the young or inexperienced players. Don't let the rankings fool you, Philippines stopped dominating since early 2018 and they only ranked high because of their exploits back in 2012-2016 such as AFC Challenge cup, World cup Qualifiers, some minor tournaments and some friendlies. But since they fired Dooley as a coach, things went downward spiral on them

  3. One thing I want to say is that you shouldn’t look at the fifa rankings too much. You guys are emphasizing a flawed ranking and system way too much. As a viewer of this region and Asian football in general teams like Malaysia and Indonesia should not be in the 150s. For one they are way better than Myanmar who are in the same 150s. Indonesia defeating 80th ranked curaçao twice isn’t even as big of an upset as you probably think it is, obviously curaçao is still favored but there’s not a 60+ gap which you saw easily in those two matches. Indonesia and Malaysia qualified for the Asian cup recently. One thing that explains the poor ranking is the massive improvement of asean teams from the past poor performances in short amounts of time, and the flawed math for the rankings can’t take that into account. Vietnam isn’t the only team improving. The whole region is rising. For example Malaysia used to lose 10-0 to the UAE. For the World Cup qualifers their ranking made them play in the first round of qualification, making them face Timor in which they won 14-2 in aggregate. Indonesia has a similar story. Their poor team in WCQ made them placed in the first round of playoff qualification for the Asian cup due to ranking. In the end they managed to qualify for the Asian cup. And destroyed teams like Nepal 8-0 in the process.

Long story short stop looking at the fifa rankings for these predictions. The fifa rankings are even inaccurate for the World Cup teams. For example there is absolutely not a 40 place gap between the USA and Saudi Arabia. However the inaccuracy of these rankings are even more big the lower you get on the fifa ranking. What I can tell you is Indonesia and Malaysia are at least 30 places higher on the fifa ranking then 150s.

  4. No excuses for us this time our squad and form has been too good the expectation isn’t at least the final the expectation is to win it no other result. And we should win it on paper, but the finishing problem of this team sometimes just costs us.

  5. No disrespect to the other teams at all, but it would definitely be a huge shocking failure for Vietnam to fail to win this one. They are huge favorites. Because compared to last year, which they were still the favorite to win, however they were in poor form, had many missing players and injuries. The refeering in the semis for Thailand may be questionable, however that shouldn’t even been the matchup in the first place, Vietnams performance throughout the group stages against Lao and Indonesia proved they definitely weren’t playing up to how they should be, did not deserve the trophy at all.

This year however, Vietnam has brought their full A squad. French club has let quang hai go, No injuries at the moment, and they are in fine form. Unbeaten in their last 7. 6 straight wins. A 1-1 draw against japan thrashing of India and Singapore who are in their group, and a win against German club borrusia Dortmund. (You can’t say they brought their B squad. The Vietnamese didn’t even play their strongest lineup for that match either, in fact half the team was substitutes and bench) you also add in the factors of other teams. Malaysia is bringing what could be called a B squad because JDT won’t release players. It SHOULD be a very easy group stage for Vietnam quite frankly. Meanwhile Thailand is coming off a loss to Chinese Taipei…and they don’t have chanathip for this tournament. I think Vietnam are overwhelming favorites for this one, it’s win or nothing.

  6. first game and we already got a shock

  7. 1: Thailand
    2: Indonesia
    3: Philippines
    4: Cambodia
    5: Brunei

    1: Vietnam
    2: Malaysia
    3: Singapore
    4: Laos
    5: Myanmar

    Thailand 1-1 Malaysia*
    Vietnam 3-1 Indonesia

    Malaysia 1-0 Thailand
    Indonesia 3-2 Vietnam

    Final: Vietnam 2-1 Malaysia

  8. Some update from the Teams
    – Thailand will miss couple key players who play in J league
    – Vietnam with full team win 1 – 0 again the Philippines last week
    – Indonesia After double win again Curaçao had a plan to strengthen their defense with ueropean base player, just before the tournament they got 2 spain and Holland, Indonesian descendants players, Jordy Amat (was playing for Real Betis, Espanyol, Swansea) and Sandy Walsh (still playing regularly with Belgian side KV Mechelen) , which both of them became this year most expensive players in the AFF cup.
But Indo will also lost Elkan Baggot who can not leave his English club to joint the National Team.
    – Malaysia will lose 12 off their key players, because JDT players will not joint the national team, being JDT the best club in Malaysia history this is a big lose. Last minute their best players Dion Cools who base in uero drop the calling.

  9. The Socceroos should definitely play in the AFF Cup, considering Australia are a member of both the AFC and the AFF and the Socceroos participate in the Asian cup and have even won it before. Very weird

  10. Hey, bro. The 25th Arabian Gulf Cup starts soon in January

  11. Maybe Indonesia will finally win the cup after all the long suffering and many years

  12. In terms of format I hope the aff considers 12 team tournament in the future (3 groups of 4 teams). I'd love to see an invitational team such as a Hong Kong or Maldives. It would be good competition and all the southeast asian sides can participate (I don't really like the two legged qualifier)

  13. Question
What your thoughts of Australia ?? not participating in the AFF? The Socceroos should participate without the European players. Just send the Olyroos or A-League base players. Could be great way to showcase south East Asian talent to bigger league. If they can compete with the aussies physical tactic, they can do well in bigger leagues.

  14. It so significant in Malaysia, that the PM announce a public holiday when Malaysia won it back in 2010?

  15. I will say from a Philippines perspective, don't sleep on us. We definitely aren't the team we used to be in the 2010s with our "failed golden/renaissance generation" but our new young transitional squad with a new coach, Josep Ferré can definitely spring a surprise. I do expect us to beat Cambodia & Brunei in our first two games and be on top of the group before playing Thailand on Boxing Day. After our Thailand (which I do think we lose), we get a 1-week rest period and don't play until the 2nd of January, whereas all the other teams in our group play on the 29th December – Indonesia v. Thailand. Then it's home advantage with longer rest time for Philippines v. Indonesia.

The bare minimum should be Semi-Finals, though there is no expectation to get through the group. But with a very favorable schedule for us with a crucial rest period in Matchday 4, we could be a surprise package, given that we failed to even qualify for the 2023 Asian Cup.

There is pressure on Thailand and Indonesia to do well and qualify from the group, whereas we don't have that huge pressure given our young team, though mostly inexperienced. On paper, Thailand and Indonesia should progress, but any slip up or mounting pressure on either team, then Philippines can easily capitalize. For Cambodia and Brunei, no chance to qualify sadly for them.

Scheduling with home/away travel and rest periods could play a huge advantage to certain teams who have "easier" fixtures at certain times. For Indonesia, they technically have no rest period since they start their campaign on Matchday 2. So every game for them is practically every 3 days. Just a bit of something to look out for.

  16. Everyone's looking strong now, Thailand beating Myanmar 6-0, Vietnam beating Dortmund, Malaysia with another Korean coach in the region still looking good even without JDT players, also another Japanese managing Singapore might be a threat too.

Dunno about my country (Indonesia), we really defeated Curacao in September, but the Kanjuruhan tragedy happened not long after, which postponed the league and the players haven't played since then. Unfortunately, we couldn't find any team to play friendlies, the plan was to play local clubs but the league has already restarted since few days ago. Still hoping to finally win the trophy, but I would still be happy if the team reach the final (even though this means 7 times runner-up). Ofc the first job should be done first, top the group!

  17. I’ll be interested to see what pice Cambodia will be to beat Philippines or even double chance…
That’s where the value will be.

  18. Group A
    1st – Indonesia
    2nd – Thailand

    Group B
    1st – Vietnam
    2nd – Singapore

Singaporeans wants that SMOKE with Indonesia again in the semi-finals. We will never forget what happen last year boys!!

  19. Nguyen Quang Hai do actually having regular gametime in pau and score his first goal so it is very nice for him.
Ikhsan Fandi is such a baller and his brother signed for a belgium side just yesterday.
I think malaysia will win because of their coach, Kim pan-gon. as a hongkonger he is a legend for our national team and is very capable of taking this malaysia team to next level

  20. Great edit mate, looking forward to this tournament and plenty more AFF 22/23 videos to come ?
