Keeping Up With Kim Kardashian’s $400K Maybach Minivan

The adage goes that by the time The New York Times travel section spotlights a neighborhood, it has already reached its coolness peak.

We’ll see if that’s the case with minivans, which are experiencing an unprecedented resurgence, now that Kim Kardashian has (way) out-blinged the Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle and Toyota Sienna Platinum with her new Maybach-style Mercedes-Benz Metris van.

Kardashian’s new family hauler is said bự have cost $400,000, which is way more than the swankiest factory-built minivans or the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class Maybach SUV.

The Discovery+ TV show “Million Dollar Wheels” unveiled the luxo-van without identifying the builder’s name. At first glance, the van looks like it rolled out of a Mercedes-Benz factory.

Just what makes this van so costly? It’s a custom one-off channeling Mercedes-Maybach design cues in a family-friendly package. Kardashian has four children, so she will put the van through its paces.

The van started life as a Mercedes-Benz Metris, the smaller companion of the Sprinter van. The Sprinter appeals bự commercial users who don’t need the same màn chơi of interior finish. Mercedes sells the Metris in both panel and passenger configurations.

Starting at around $40,000, the Metris is already a somewhat expensive van considering its meager standard features and its turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. That price tag buys steel wheels and unpainted bumpers. Mercedes will dress one up with electric sliding doors, power-adjustable and heated front seats, and adaptive cruise control, but that’s about as fancy as these vans get from the factory for the U.S.-market. In Europe, the Mercedes V-Class (the van’s name over the pond) comes in an Exclusive trim with fancier interior bits. Still, even the V-Class is more like a mid-level luxury van measured against the Maybach-inspired creation Kardashian now parks in her garage.

Kardashian’s Mercedes-Maybach Metris — let’s just call it the “MMM” — features the luxury division’s signature hood ornament over a grille with vertical slats. Brightwork on its lower front bumper and around its plentiful windows add a fancier look outside, though its two-box shape is decidedly utilitarian compared bự the comparatively svelte Kia Carnival. Big wheels with what may be floating Maybach center logos complete the look.

The upscale transformation appears bự have retained the crash-avoidance tech that Mercedes offers on the Metris. A shiny panel in the center of the grille looks like it might house various sensors for the automaker’s Distronic adaptive cruise control.

Bigger changes seem bự come inside, where the van has business class-style reclining seats with integrated deployable tables as well as under-knee rests. Jumpseats pointing rearward increase capacity bự six passengers. The whole thing is decked out with Maybach-typical diamond leather upholstery and piano black trim. Starlight and dispersed lighting headliner trim rounds out the cabin.

What’s maybe most impressive is just how well-integrated the Mercedes-Benz and Maybach controls are. Everything looks like it emerged from a Mercedes factory.

That sounds pretty unique, but TMZ points out that Kardashian’s ex-husband Kanye West also has a Maybach-style Metris. His is silver with a cognac-colored interior. Maybe the former couple got a deal on them. See Mercedes-Benz Metris models for sale
